From its roots in the Edo period Tekijuku school Rangaku. Osaka University has maintained and developed a close relationship with local society and the industrial world, while aiming to conduct research on the highest global level, all under the motto of “Live Locally, Grow Globally”.

Researchers at Osaka University continue to expand their leading and creative academic research, greatly influencing not only Japan, but also the world.

Drawing from both established eminence and youthful talent, they come from various countries, to an invaluable forum of exchange. For Osaka University’s research staff, as our guests. Osaka University becomes an irresistible educational and research institution.

On the 150th anniversary of U.S.-Japan goodwill relations. Osaka University became the first among Japan’s national universities to launch an overseas office in San Francisco, Osaka’s sister city.

The San Francisco Center exists to support the university’s vast array of international activities. For the sake of mutual understanding and friendship, we shall endeavor to encourage and facilities collaborative education and research.

In addition to promoting student/research exchange programs between Osaka University and North American universities, we will set up scientific symposiums to share Osaka University’s top-ranked research activities in a forum. We intend to conduct international joint research projects.

I hope that not only students and scientists but people of many countries can visit our San Francisco Center and together contribute to science and education for sustainable, global living in a peaceful world.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Chikaosa Tanimoto
Executive Director, Osaka University San Francisco Center
Professor, Graduate School of Engineering
